*Line has Reopened to Lakeside* Puffing Billy Railway Closed By Landslide!

Update - Railway repoened today 6/2/2011 with services to Lakeside. A track gang (myself, John Shaw, Norm Maugher, John Conway) completed a patrol to Gembrook after what seemed like endless drain clearing, removal of debris, chainsawing, clearing of road crossings and other general works. Thanks to the museum and workshops boys who got as far as Cockatoo the day before making our task a little easier. Trains are likely to operate to Gembrook again but ring the railway to be sure. It was an excellent day with much hard work. We'll probably have to do it all again next weekend if the BOM is right about what is coming.…

G42 Back on Track at Puffing Billy Railway

G42 came out of hiding in the workshops where she has undergone a major overhaul. John Hoy the Operations Manager for the railway moved the locomotive under its own steam for the first time in eight months yesterday and was looking forward to taking it out on a test run to Menzies Creek and return today.…

Puffing Billy Railway (through the society) recently discovered that a house that been built surrounding two historic narrow gauge carriages that are hundred+ year old was being torn down. The carriages have been saved and transported to Emerald where they wait on flats. I understand they are to be tarped to seal them from the elements and stored in the museum. You can view a series of images depicting the current state of the carriages in this gallery.…

Unusual consist spotted at Puffing Billy this morning

This morning while travelling to work I came across this unusual consist on Puffing Billy just after the Clematis grade crossing on Emerald bank. They were pruning folliage and shredding it with the tree mucher in the NQR. The loco is D21. Sorry about the awful phone photos!…
