G42 came out of hiding in the workshops where she has undergone a major overhaul. John Hoy the Operations Manager for the railway moved the locomotive under its own steam for the first time in eight months yesterday and was looking forward to taking it out on a test run to Menzies Creek and return today.
The workshops have done a fantastic job in turning out the locomotive in time for the busy six train running over the holidays.
Looking at it only a couple of months ago when it was still in three pieces shows just how much effort has been poured into this locomotive in recent times to get it out.
The photo shows the locomotive at Cockatoo on a rainy afternoon last time it ran when it was carefully extracted from mothballs and run hauling a charter to commemorate 100 years of Garratt locomotives.
Official trial trains are expected over the next few days with a prompt return to service.
